One of the best jazz Christmas album projects I have worked on came from instrumentalist and musician Jessie Boyce II. He brought me in to design the cover for his EP, Holiday Groove. It is a project I am genuinely proud of, and I wanted to walk you through it here on the blog.
Holiday Groove: Behind the Best Jazz Christmas Album Cover
Over the years I have been fortunate to design covers and create illustrations for some remarkable musicians. Every now and then, a musician will send me their music to listen to while I work. That always changes the creative process in the best way. Jessie did exactly that, and it made all the difference.

Among The Best Jazz Musicians You Need To Hear:
Working with Jessie Boyce II on this cover was a pleasure from start to finish. I got to hear the music before it was released, which meant I was designing while the sound was still fresh in my ears. That kind of access shapes every decision you make visually.
While I worked through the design concepts, the music kept pulling me back to something familiar. It reminded me of listening to Kenny G as a kid — that smooth, warm saxophone sound that felt both calming and cinematic at the same time.
It also brought back some of my best memories of Christmas as a child. Holiday music has a way of doing that. Once you listen to Holiday Groove, you will understand exactly what I mean. It earns its place among the best jazz Christmas album releases I have had the privilege of touching.

Classic Christmas Album Cover Ideas
Holiday Groove is just as refreshing to listen to as it is to look at. The warmth, the joy, the peaceful energy — Jessie layered all of it with a fun twist that makes the tracks feel both timeless and completely his own. You will be a fan after the first listen.
The Front Cover Design

The Back Cover Design

What follows are behind-the-scenes examples showing the number of revisions and design directions Jessie and I explored before landing on the final cover. Now think about that same level of care applied to the music itself — the recording, the performance, the mixing — all to reach the sound Jessie had in his head from day one.
I hope this gives you a deeper appreciation for what goes into a project like this, from the first note to the final design file.
